About Us
We are the Bowman Family. Michael, Emily, Haddon, Martin, Eliza, and Warren. We are the 6th and 7th generation to live on land in the beautiful driftless region of Wisconsin. Just south of La Crosse, we are tucked away in the bluffs near the Mississippi River.
We moved to the property in 2015 knowing that we wanted to raise some of our own food and break away from the industrial food system. Full of ideas and ideals, we started with a flock of laying hens and 50 pastured broilers which has since grown to a larger flock of chickens and ducks, a herd of pigs, a flock of sheep and a rabbitry. Over time we have started moving towards heritage breeds that are slow growing, low-input, kid-friendly and work well on forage and pasture. Our goal is to find and raise the ideal animals for a small-scale, “community-sufficient” homestead and help others get started on their own productive home ventures.
Alongside the farm, we have also started other productive enterprises out of our home, especially focusing on making household products that are healthy, natural, and beautiful. Recently we have started to sell some of these to customers who share our desire to use real products in their everyday lives. We hope to make many more natural household items available for sale as well as make it fast and easy to buy them. Right now they are only available locally but will be available for online sale soon.
We believe that slow, careful growth over time is the kind of growth that will be the most long lasting and consequential. This is how our productive household and farmstead has grown. With Michael as a Pastor and Emily as a homeschooling mom and pastor’s wife, our life is full. This means that Bowman Heritage will grow as we have the time, and as our kids grow into their own productive enterprises. We are trying to build a productive and regenerative homestead that is self-sufficient and abundant and we want to help equip others to do the same.
